Mexico · Riviera Maya,
in greater detail.

The Mexican Caribbean can be a private resort escape, a family base or a wider Yucatán journey shaped by Maya heritage and remarkable natural landscapes.

Region-by-region guidanceSeasonal contextConcierge planning notes

Where to stay

Four distinct ways
to experience it.

Resorts, reef and jungle

Riviera Maya

The coast south of Cancún includes Playa del Carmen, Mayakoba, Akumal and Tulum. Distances and development levels vary considerably.

Air access and energetic resort life

Cancún & Isla Mujeres

Cancún offers straightforward international access and extensive facilities; Isla Mujeres provides a smaller island contrast by ferry or boat.

Maya sites, cenotes and historic towns

Yucatán interior

Valladolid, Mérida and archaeological sites including Chichén Itzá can deepen a coastal stay, but heat and journey times need planning.

Lagoon landscape and slower travel

Bacalar & further south

Bacalar and the southern part of Quintana Roo suit travellers prepared for longer road journeys and fewer large-resort conveniences.

What to do

Experiences with
real sense of place.

Signature experience

Visit Maya sites responsibly

Go with an accredited guide, start early where possible and follow all conservation rules.

Signature experience

Swim in a cenote carefully

Use established operators and avoid products or behaviour that may damage fragile freshwater ecosystems.

Signature experience

Explore the reef with context

The Mesoamerican Reef is ecologically important; choose responsible marine operators and follow local restrictions.

Signature experience

Taste beyond the resort

Yucatecan and regional Mexican cooking reward time in towns, markets and independently run restaurants.

When to go

Use the season,
not just the date.

December–April

The drier and most popular period on the Caribbean coast, with strong demand around festive and school-holiday dates.

May–August

Hot, humid conditions with increasing rainfall; sargassum can affect Caribbean beaches and varies by location and year.

June–November

Atlantic hurricane season. Flexible booking terms, monitoring and comprehensive insurance are important.

September–October

Often the wettest and quietest part of the year in the region, with a higher storm risk.

Plan it well

Details that change the holiday.

  1. Ask for a current beach and sargassum update; it cannot be guaranteed months in advance.
  2. Resort addresses may be far from towns or sites despite sharing the Riviera Maya label.
  3. Use official transport or pre-arranged transfers, and check current regional travel advice.

A journey idea to discuss

Let the hotel and the region both count

Build your stay around the accommodation you enjoy, then leave space for a cultural excursion. Agree the travel time, guide and practical arrangements before adding a full day away from the resort.

An idea for your enquiry, not a fixed itinerary. Your proposal will confirm the arrangements and availability.

Before you choose

The details
that matter.

Review beach conditions for the dates, meal arrangements and transfer requirements. For families or groups, compare room occupancy and connecting options. Share whether you want an all-inclusive format or the flexibility to choose restaurants separately.

What should I include in my enquiry?

Your preferred dates, departure airport, number of adults and children, approximate budget and the kind of accommodation you enjoy. Mention any must-haves so they guide the shortlist.

Can you suggest somewhere beyond this collection?

Yes, use the enquiry to tell us what you have in mind. The collection is a starting point; we can discuss other possibilities and establish what is available through the relevant providers.
